Angstrom Power Inc.

Angstrom Power is designing the next generation of safe, mobile power for tomorrow's multi-purpose hand-held electronics. Angstrom Power's innovative Micro Hydrogen™ technology, an integration of novel fuel cell, energy storage and micro-fluidic components has demonstrated better than batteries performance at scales equivalent to today's mobile lithium ion batteries. The combination of hydrogen fuel and handset scale integration makes Angstrom a technology leader with capabilities not matched by any competitor.

During 2008, Angstrom Power received several industry awards. Angstrom Power was chosen as one of the GoingGreen Top 100 Winners. This award recognizes the creation of new business opportunities in the green technology industries.  Angstrom Power also received the 2008 Frost & Sullivan North American Technology Innovation of the Year Award in the field of micro fuel cells.  The award is bestowed upon a company that has carried out new research and innovations that will bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture.

Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies Inc.

Ostara is commercializing proprietary technologies that recover resources from wastewater and recycle them into valuable products. Ostara's lead technology platform, developed at the University of British Columbia, (1) recovers polluting nutrients, such as phosphorus and ammonia, from sewage sludge liquids that would otherwise be released into the environment, (2) helps wastewater treatment plants reduce operating costs and increase throughput capacity, and (3) provides municipalities and companies with revenue from the sale of the recovered pollutants that are recycled into environmentally safe slow-release fertilizer, under the product name Crystal Green™.

On June 10, 2009, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., prominent environmental lawyer and a Director of Ostara, joined Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski at the opening of the first commercial facility in the United States to incorporate innovative new technology that recovers phosphorus and other nutrients from wastewater and recycles them into environmentally-safe premium-quality commercial fertilizer. The new technology is located in suburban Portland at the Clean Water Services’ Durham Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility (Tigard, OR). Developed by Ostara, the new technology provides benefits to ratepayers and the environment by increasing plant capacity and reducing maintenance costs, while also creating a revenue-generating by-product.
